John Sandurski
Academy Teacher
John received his dance education at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School and at the Australian Ballet School, graduating in 1999 with his Advanced Diploma in Dance.
After graduating from the Australian Ballet School, John joined the modern ballet company Introdans (the Netherlands) where he danced for a number of years. Here he performed the works of choreographers including Jiri Kylian, Mats Ek, Hans van Manan, Nils Christe and William Forsythe. He subsequently joined the Staatstheater am Gartnerplatz (Germany) as a soloist performing the works of Hans Henning-Parr, Christian Spuck, Stefan Toss and Marco Goecke.
While in Germany, John retrained to become a classical ballet teacher at the University for Music and Performing Arts (Munich). He graduated with a Diploma Degree in Ballet Pedagogy in the Vaganova method, studying under former John Cranko/Stuttgart Ballet School director Alex Ursuliac.
In 2011 John returned to Australia and began freelance teaching for schools, companies, and universities in the Brisbane area. John was ballet lecturer at Griffith University/Qld Conservatorium, guest lecturer at Queensland University of Technology and guest teacher for Expressions Dance Company. He also taught workshops, summer schools and adult ballet classes in the South East area, as well as community dance collaborations with Queensland Performing Arts Centre.
John moved to Melbourne in 2017 to become Director of the Melbourne Conservatoire of Ballet Junior Training Program. He expanded his role in 2018 to become Director of the Full-Time Advanced Diploma of Dance, Half Day Diploma in Dance and Certificate IV in Dance courses.
John returned to Brisbane in 2022 to teach at the Queensland Ballet Academy.
