#International Cultural Tours

Queensland Ballet has a long history of touring internationally, promoting cultural exchange and proudly sharing our artistic voice on the world stage. Welcoming our supporters behind-the-scenes on tours to London and China over the last decade has been a delight!

With international travel firmly back on the agenda, we’re preparing to realise some long-held travel plans throughout 2024 and beyond. We can access exceptional cultural experiences through our networks, regardless of whether or not our artists are performing overseas, so we’re branching out to offer cultural tours that celebrate our ethos, paying homage to the diversity represented in our Company.

Support our Jette Parker Young Artist program
12 – 19 June 2024, and June 2025 (dates to be confirmed)

We share a unique connection with the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, where the first Jette Parker Young Artists Programme was established in 2001. We celebrate our collective desire to develop exceptional early-career artists – the creative lives of our gifted young dancers in West End are echoed each day, on a 9-hour delay, by extraordinary young conductors, stage directors, singers, and répétiteurs some 16,500km away in Covent Garden. As we proudly reflect on our decade-long history of offering our Jette Parker Young Artist program, we invite you to support this essential platform for early-career artists at Queensland Ballet, by joining us in London for this exclusive tour – one that only QB could curate!

This tour is centred around Liam Scarlett’s Swan Lake performed by The Royal Ballet. Paired with a triple bill featuring three celebrated and expertly choreographed works of prominent 20th century choreographer, Frederick Ashton, this tour offers exclusive behind-the-scenes immersion into the captivating world of dance and London’s vibrant cultural scene. We’ll observe and connect with renowned artistic talents of our time in some of the most iconic venues in international dance, including the Royal Ballet School, the Royal Opera House, and their Production Workshop and Costume Centre. We’re also beginning plans for a London tour in June 2025 and expressions of interest are open for both years.

#Cuba

Celebrating our Cuban Connection at the 28th International Ballet Festival of Havana, in support of Wellbeing at Queensland Ballet
Late October – early November 2024

At the heart of our artistic vision is international connectivity, with the global nature of ballet being reflected in our diverse collective of artists. Their heritage and personalities, alongside their talents, form the unique ensemble we see in our studios, in our Academy, and on our stages today. Originally planned for 2020, we’re elated to announce our Cuban Cultural Tour coinciding with the 28th International Ballet Festival of Havana.

This cultural tour is in support of wellbeing at Queensland Ballet, acknowledging our significant investment in cultivating a culture of wellness, through all levels of our Academy and Company, for every student, artist, and arts worker. Our support of our artists extends far beyond assisting them to achieve their peak physical performance onstage – we care deeply for their personal wellbeing and career longevity, investing heavily in our team of experts and the infrastructure required to support a holistic culture of wellbeing at all levels of our Academy and Company.

Through journeying with us to Cuba, you’ll be directly enabling this essential tradition – an anchor for our art form, allowing the people behind ballet to thrive both now and in the future.

Curated in consultation with one of Cuba’s leading cultural touring companies, this tour will provide arts access like no other, offering insights into Cuba’s remarkable history, architecture, lifestyle, and cultural identity, while integrating the personal suggestions and local tips of our Cuban artists.

As a guest of Queensland Ballet, we’ll be asking you to include a small suitcase of pointe shoes with your luggage, which we’ll personally deliver to the Cuban National Ballet School – a touching gesture in assistance of their wellbeing and education.

The Festival will take place from 26 October – 02 November 2024; we’re working to arrange the dates of our tour around their program. We expect to confirm a date range very soon, however our itinerary within those dates will be subject to change depending on the Festival’s programming, which is scheduled for release in early 2024.

#Ways to support

Jette Parker Young Artists

Passionate about supporting the dreams of young artists? Also consider supporting our Jette Parker Young Artists at the beginning of their career.

Bequests

If ballet has been a part of your life’s journey, we invite you to consider a bequest to Queensland Ballet to celebrate the art form which has given you such pleasure.

Giving Day

Giving Day is your opportunity to support Queensland Ballet's vision.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and perform. Long before we performed on this land, it played host to the dance expression of our First Peoples. We pay our respects to their Elders — past, present and emerging — and acknowledge the valuable contribution they have made and continue to make to the cultural landscape of this country.
