Dance for Seniors

As we get older, keeping our bodies strong and agile is more important than ever.

Our classes for active adults are a great way to challenge the mind and body and make new friends who share a love of dance.

Dance for Seniors

Keeping bodies active

In 2017 Ballet for Seniors was the subject of a study conducted by Queensland Ballet in partnership with Queensland University of Technology and supported by the Queensland Government's Advance Queensland initiative.

Findings show that Ballet for Seniors led to positive wellbeing outcomes particularly: feeling more energetic, keeping in shape, bodily control, posture, flexibility, physical wellbeing, and overall wellbeing.

We're passionate about making dance more accessible for all!

Ballet for Seniors Beginners

This class is our entry level ballet class for active older adults. Formulated under extensive research and tailored for ageing bodies, these classes focus on improving poise, core strength, memory and mobility.

Feel better, think better, live better – with ballet.

Ballet for Seniors Intermediate

This class is the next step in your Ballet for Seniors journey, tailored for older adults who have more experience in ballet technique and terminology. Our Intermediate classes move at a faster pace with more challenging combinations offered but are still supportive and friendly to ageing bodies.

Jazz for Seniors

This class focuses on Broadway jazz artistry and choreography, drawing from some of the world's most popular musicals.

Grounded in jazz technique, the class is tailored to be inclusive of beginner-level older adults: no turns, jumps or floor work.

Stretch & Tone for Seniors

This gentle fitness class will guide you through a series of adapted exercises and stretches, designed to help improve posture, core strength and mobility.

Our Stretch & Tone classes are the perfect complement to our Dance for Seniors classes or can be enjoyed as a standalone fitness class.

What's on

Queensland Ballet offers other one-off dance workshops and events throughout the year.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and perform. Long before we performed on this land, it played host to the dance expression of our First Peoples. We pay our respects to their Elders — past, present and emerging — and acknowledge the valuable contribution they have made and continue to make to the cultural landscape of this country.
