Take a seat

Celebrate the arts in West End by dedicating a seat in the Talbot Theatre at the Thomas Dixon Centre.

Take a Seat

Our vision

When we first thought about our beautiful new Thomas Dixon Centre, we were told it would be too hard to put a studio theatre on this site. But we pushed for it. We believed it had to be possible, to grow the arts in Queensland’s West End.

For our dancers to be able to perform here was part of our dream. For our Academy students to feel that it was their performance home was so important. And for our audience to be welcomed to our home stage was essential.

We also want you, our supporters, to be part of our beautiful new home.

#Take a seat

By dedicating a seat in the Talbot Theatre, you are showing your support and love of art, and taking a seat in a part of Queensland’s history.

Seats available for dedication:

  • $3,000 for a Creative seat

  • $5,000 for an Artist seat

  • $5,000 for a Production seat

  • $5,000 for an Accessibility seat

  • $25,000 for an Artistic Director seat

You can choose to make your donation in full when you select your seat, or opt for a two to five year payment plan. We welcome you to speak with us to tailor your pledge plans. Queensland Ballet is a registered Australian charity, and gifts over $2 are tax-deductible.

Your donation

Your dedication may show your personal support or celebrate a loved one’s life and love of art. Your donation will be visibly recognised in perpetuity in the Talbot Theatre, and also on a seat plaque for 10 years as an inspiration to all who see it.

Your gift helps to support a place where art and artists can thrive, where stories are shared, creativity flourishes, and connections between artists and audiences are forged.

Please contact our Foundation team to discuss any questions about dedicating a seat by phoning +61 7 3013 6666 or email foundation@queenslandballet.com.au.

The 351-seat Talbot Theatre is built over three levels, designed to enable full-scale Company rehearsals and performances, with optimal sightlines from every seat.

We look forward to welcoming Queensland Ballet programs, Queensland Ballet Academy showcases, works for young audiences as part of our My First Ballet Series, masterclasses and community activities, as well as artists-in-residence and visiting performing arts companies.

#The space

As soon as the architect hinted that it might be possible for us to build a theatre on the Thomas Dixon Centre site, we didn’t let go of that glimmer of hope. The Thomas Dixon Centre has been home to performance and creation for so long, so we had to make our vision a reality.

We wanted to create an extraordinary performance space, where stories are shared, creativity flourishes and connections between artists and audiences are forged. And we did it. We are seeing our Talbot Theatre come to life, and it’s incredible. With state-of-the-art stage facilities and a stunning auditorium, it will offer the perfect environment for art and artists to thrive for many years to come. This space has only been made possible thanks to the support of the Ken Talbot Foundation.

"Why did I take a seat? Love. I was browsing around the Queensland Ballet website and noticed the Take a Seat campaign as part of the Thomas Dixon Centre rebuild. What an opportunity!

We adore being part of the audience at Queensland Ballet performances. We have met so many new friends and interesting people through being amongst the audience. What better way to confirm our commitment to being part of the audience in the future.

How to make this more special? I contacted the brilliant team at Queensland Ballet Foundation to arrange a birthday surprise for my lovely wife Carmel. So it was the combination of my love for Carmel, and our love of Queensland Ballet, that made the decision easy."

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and perform. Long before we performed on this land, it played host to the dance expression of our First Peoples. We pay our respects to their Elders — past, present and emerging — and acknowledge the valuable contribution they have made and continue to make to the cultural landscape of this country.
