Brisbane designer Gail Sorronda forms gothic collaboration with Queensland Ballet for Dracula

Known for her monochromatic, voluminous, and darkly romantic designs, Brisbane-based designer Gail Sorronda has collaborated with Queensland Ballet (QB) to design merchandise for their upcoming production of Dracula.

Sorronda describes her work as ethereal, dark and romantic, so it was an obvious synergy for Queensland Ballet’s long-awaited season of Bram Stoker’s gothic tale. She has designed an exclusive merchandise range for the production, including a set of enamel pins, a t-shirt, and a tote bag. Keeping to the passionate, bloodthirsty theme of Dracula, the merchandise includes references to gothic undertones mixed with romance and ballet.

In true gothic style, QB Artistic Director Li Cunxin AO will be wearing a cape made just for him by Sorronda on Opening Night.

"This is the first time our company has collaborated with such a well-established designer. Gail’s strikingly dark designs are a perfect match for our upcoming season of Dracula, and I am certain that our audiences are going to love the merchandise,” said Mr Li.

Hailed as ‘someone to watch’ by the late Karl Largerfield, Sorronda designs with vision and devotion. Her name-sake label, Gail Sorronda was launched in 2005 at Australian Fashion Week in Sydney. Each collection pays homage to striking silhouettes and a dark style of romanticism that has left a unique mark on the Brisbane fashion scene.

The Gail Sorronda X Queensland Ballet limited edition Dracula merchandise will be available to purchase at QPAC Lyric Theatre. It is a must-have for ballet and fashion fanatics alike.

Dracula is a first-time collaboration between QB and world-renowned Polish choreographer Krzysztof Pastor, as they bring to life the unearthly and sensuous tale of Count Dracula as he tries to reunite with his one true love, Mina. The production will premiere for Brisbane audiences on November 24th and will run until December 4th at the Lyric Theatre, QPAC.
