Limitless Leaps

In partnership with AllPlay Dance, Deakin University Child Study Centre and Churchill State School, Queensland Ballet was thrilled to deliver a unique inclusive in-school 10-week dance program.

Supported by Arts Queensland Artists in Residence program Limitless Leaps focused on inclusivity regardless of ability.

Limitless Leaps

#About the program

Thirteen children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Intellectual Disability (ID) were buddied with Year 6 leadership students to participate in an all-abilities, dance program led by Queensland Ballet Teaching Artists.

The aims of the program included:

- To compliment the implementation of the Australian Curriculum – The Arts through a specifically designed inclusive dance program.

- To enhance society's knowledge and practice of inclusivity and diversity by providing contemporary research embedded within an evidence-based framework, for dissemination around the world.

- To change the perceptions around people with a disability participating in dance. By connecting research with community practice we promote inclusive learning through dance and foster an accepting school community.

- To demonstrate the social, cognitive, emotional, physical and behavioural benefits of participation in dance for all abilities.

This project is at the forefront of accessible dance in the school environment and positioned within contemporary research and evidence-based practice.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and perform. Long before we performed on this land, it played host to the dance expression of our First Peoples. We pay our respects to their Elders — past, present and emerging — and acknowledge the valuable contribution they have made and continue to make to the cultural landscape of this country.
